Our family is passionate about crafting New Zealand’s finest chocolate. So passionate in fact, we’re four generations in and counting. We’re sticklers for quality. Keen to roll up our sleeves and get involved in the day-to-day. You’ll often find Andrew and Brian tinkering about on the factory floor!

Our search for the most precise machinery takes us around the world. While at home in Porirua, we make sure our wonderful staff are supported and search for ways to make our factory operations more sustainable.

Renewable Energy

There's something in the wind...

We’ve been working with Meridian to make our delicious chocolate more energy efficient: 9.7% more efficient per tonne of chocolate to be exact!

We chose and continue to choose Meridian as part of our commitment to sustainability, they generate electricity from 100% renewable sources like wind, sun and water.

To celebrate our partnership, we made a very special Creamy Milk ‘Brooklyn Block’ in 2017. It was inspired by Meridian’s iconic wind turbine in the suburb of Brooklyn, Wellington, and was available to buy in local stores.

Sustainable Policies

Good Egg Award winners, again!

Easter is the biggest chocolate buying holiday of the year. So, social good organisations, Be Slavery Free, Green America, Inkota and Mighty Earth, release a scorecard to help consumers make informed decisions. It grades chocolate companies on criteria like, living income which is a basic right, child labour, and agroforestry (how land is managed in and around crops).

We’re incredibly proud to have been awarded the ‘Good Egg Award’ for the second year running and to be listed among the top 4 chocolate companies in the world. This award recognises Whittaker's as an industry-leading company that’s shown the greatest improvement in sustainable policies and demonstrates our continued commitment to quality in all areas of chocolate making.

We are unable to offer tours because of our relatively small size and tight factory regulations. But you can still get a sneak peek of what goes on behind the scenes on our Beans to Bar page!

We believe in investing in our wonderful staff. So, at Whittaker's we have a carefully curated Wellness Programme which focuses on physical health and social wellbeing to keep our team healthy and happy. It's made up of a set of initiatives including, gym memberships, free fruit in the workplace, bespoke English language lessons, eye care, hearing tests – and more!
