Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori
Last updated 12/09/2023: Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) is a week in Aotearoa to celebrate and promote the use of te reo Māori.
As a proud New Zealand family business, Whittaker’s is doing our part to support Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, and the revitalisation of te reo more broadly, through a range of initiatives. These include te reo lessons for our staff, visits to local marae, holding a staff hangi, a donation to Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust and producing delicious Whittaker’s recipes in te reo with Naomi Toilalo (WhānauKai). Check out this recipe for Parāoa Parai Poke Kore Me Te Tiakarete Hānati (No-Knead Frybread with Hazella Chocolate).
In recent years, we have celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with the release of our Special Edition Miraka Kirīmi (Creamy Milk) block. The label has been translated into te reo with guidance from Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission).
We look forward to continuing on our te reo Māori journey and sharing some more exciting initiatives with you along the way.
